About

Welcome to Newfangled Hygge, my cozy and crazy corner of the internet. Here, I invite you to join me in finding ways to balance the chaos of motherhood and life with the purposeful pauses of hygge. Come along with me as I work to rediscover joy, curiosity, and connection. This space is about paying attention to the beautiful life that is already happening while trying so hard to manage it.

Let me tell you a little about myself.

I’m Emily, a late-30-something-year-old Mom of four. I eloped at 18 with my high school sweetheart who I’m still married to almost 20 years later. I’m a writer, creator, reader, empath, lover and this picture of me is a few years old because I don’t have a current one I like.

I’m a SAHM who homeschools, which is no easy feat especially now that my kids are ages six to fifteen. I don’t follow one specific method but bounce around from one to the other- whatever is working best for our season of life. If you ask what my homeschooling method is, my answer might be, “lists.” I’m sure I will be sharing plenty about all of my different lists.

My husband likes to switch jobs the way some switch shoes. For the past few years he has been working offshore, which means I’m solo-parenting 50% of the time. He has traveled for 98% of our marriage (that is not an exact percentage). Is it hard? Yes. But since we’ve done it from the beginning, and we both come from military families, I can’t compare it to anything else.

One reason I settled on Newfangled Hygge (after my many other blog attempts like Newfangled Housewife, DIY Disney Days, and my author blog Emily Herring Dunn) is because I am starting a journey. I want to find the balance between life as it is, and hygge.

I don’t have answers. I don’t have many ideas on how to find the balance. I don’t even know if I expect to truly find balance. But I’m excited to be here and go through this openly and honestly. I hope to find a community in the process of it all.

I hope you tag along. Please don’t be a stranger.

I’m Emily
